Islamic extremists are stepping up the creation of “no-go” areas in European cities that are off-limits to non-Muslims.

Many of the “no-go” zones function as microstates governed by Islamic Sharia law. Host-country authorities effectively have lost control in these areas and in many instances are unable to provide even basic public aid such as police, fire fighting and ambulance services.

The “no-go” areas are the by-product of decades of multicultural policies that have encouraged Muslim immigrants to create parallel societies and remain segregated rather than become integrated into their European host nations.

In Britain, for example, a Muslim group called Muslims Against the Crusades has launched a campaign to turn twelve British cities – including what it calls “Londonistan” – into independent Islamic states. The so-called Islamic Emirates would function as autonomous enclaves ruled by Islamic Sharia law and operate entirely outside British jurisprudence.

The Islamic Emirates Project names the British cities of Birmingham, Bradford, Derby, Dewsbury, Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool, Luton, Manchester, Sheffield, as well as Waltham Forest in northeast London and Tower Hamlets in East London as territories to be targeted for blanket Sharia rule.

In the Tower Hamlets area of East London (also known as the Islamic Republic of Tower Hamlets), for example, extremist Muslim preachers, called the Tower Hamlets Taliban, regularly issue death threats to women who refuse to wear Islamic veils. Neighborhood streets have been plastered with posters declaring “You are entering a Sharia controlled zone: Islamic rules enforced.” And street advertising deemed offensive to Muslims is regularly vandalized or blacked out with spray paint.

Tokyo Electric Power Co. plans to dump contaminated water from its crippled Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant into the Pacific Ocean after removing radioactive substances to reduce contamination to legally permissible levels.

Tepco said Thursday the measure is necessary because the utility fears it will eventually run out of capacity to store radioactive water that continues to accumulate at the plant due to water being injected to help cool the three reactors that experienced core meltdowns in March 2011.

(AINA) — A top secret memo sent by the Ministry of Interior in Saudi Arabia reveals the Saudi Kingdom sent death-row inmates, sentenced to execution by decapitation, to Syria to fight Jihad against the Syrian government in exchange for commuting their sentences.

According to the memo, dated April 17, 2012, the Saudi Kingdom negotiated with a total of 1239 inmates, offering them a full pardon and a monthly salary for their families, who were to remain in the Kingdom, in exchange for “…training for the sake of sending to the Jihad in Syria.”

Why does one even bother to archive ‘I’m having cereal for breakfast’ tweets?  In case you post something that may be history in the making.  Back in yonder times, people wrote letters, some people kept some letters but not all.  Of course, letters cost money to send so one usually had something worthwhile to say, even if it was sentimental.  Not so the twitterverse, where tweets are frequently mundane, not to mention irrelevant.  Out of the 4 million tweets an hour, how many are actually worth keeping? 1? 2?

Of course, that is the historian in me.  Perhaps it is more sentimental than that.  Perhaps we can order a copy of our first tweet, signed and certified by the Library of Congress; kind of like keeping a lock of hair or our first finger painting.  I doubt very much, especially as the Library hasn’t thought of a way to actually allow the public to access the display, and it’s not just recording the tweets, it’s also recording who was following the twit who tweeted the tweet and how many times it’s been retweeted by other twits.

Why does the US government embark on such a project when so many government cut-backs are occuring?  I’m speculating here, but I suspect it is to create a history or profile of individuals.  I recall that the US government already receives copies of Facebook status updates, but don’t quote me on that.  Facebook already tracks your “likes” and builds complete profiles of you, ones that you don’t even see; they sell these profiles (aggreggated of course) to clients.

Tokyo Electric Power Co. (9501), owner of the power plant which had the world’s biggest nuclear disaster since 1986, was sued by eight U.S. sailors claiming they were exposed to radiation and the utility lied about the dangers….

Tepco, as the Japanese utility is known, and the Japanese government conspired to create the false impression radiation leaking from the Fukushima Dai-Ichi plant didn’t pose a threat to the sailors, according to the complaint. As a result the plaintiffs rushed into areas that were unsafe and too close to the power plant, exposing them to radiation, the sailors’ lawyers said.

Tokyo is almost as irradiated as Fukashima.
